From there you will undergo an examination, which may include postural screening, orthopaedic, muscle and neurological testing. Proceeding this, treatment will take place, if appropriate or you will be referred out for if necessary.

My child has NDIS funding, can this be used to cover therapy sessions?

NDIS participants who are self managed or plan managed can access their NDIS funding to cover the cost of therapy sessions at Summit. Participants who have NDIA managed plans need to receive their services through NDIS registered providers in order to access their NDIS funding - so these types of plans will not cover OT costs at Summit

Where can OT sessions be held?

Depending on your family and child’s preferences OT sessions can be held at home, at school/kindergarten (providing the education setting is OK with this) or at Summit.

Are parents required to be present for sessions?

It is not a requirement for parents to be present at each session (depending on the therapy goal) but it is highly recommended! Our OT uses a family centered and strengths based approach during sessions which encourages and empowers families to follow on & implement strategies used in therapy in the home environment. This allows for greater consistency and continuity between settings and therefore greatly assists your child’s overall learning and development.

Myotherapy

What is Myotherapy?

Myotherapy is a branch of manual therapy that focusses on the treatment and/or management of musculoskeletal pain and dysfunction. Using a variety of techniques such as deep tissue manipulation, dry needling therapy, cupping and exercise prescription; a myotherapy session aims to reduce pain and restore optimal movement to the body.

What should I wear to my myotherapy appointment?

When attending a myotherapy appointment it is important to wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing that allows you to move freely. This is most important at an initial consultation as you may be required to do some range of motion exercises and testing. Tight clothing will make this difficult as it will restrict some movements.

What should I bring to my appointment?

If you have had any scans or x-rays done in regards to your chief complaint or have any specific medical reports to do with your pain or injury, it is a good idea to bring them along to your initial consult. The more information you can pass on to your therapist, the better.

Can you claim private health for myotherapy treatments?

Yes. Myotherapy fees are covered by some private health funds, but the amount will depend on your insurance policy. Contact your insurer for more information.
